Airport Code: ALC

Situated approximately 9km south-west of the capital in the area of Elche, Alicante airport is one of the busiest airports along the coast as it serves a vast area that contains many of the popular summer tourist destinations. From Benidorm to Torrevieja, Denia to Calpe, the Costa Blanca is pretty much served by this airport which is the 6th busiest airport in the country.

Depending on the time of day and rush hour, it could take between 15 and 30 minutes for you to drive from Alicante airport straight into Alicante city and can be done using the A7 and N-332 carriageways.

In 2007 over 9 million passengers passed through the terminal doors on almost 80,000 flights with the vast majority being international flights from elsewhere in Europe reflecting the important part tourism plays in the local economy. In addition to this, over 4,500 tonnes of cargo were also handled in the airport and as the passenger numbers continue to rise, the improvements to the infrastructure of the airport continue.

There is more than enough to keep passengers occupied in Alicante airport as they await their departures or the arrivals of a loved one with duty free shops, bars, restaurants and lounges to relax in located all over.

At peak summer times, Alicante airport can be extremely busy and to avoid unnecessary queues, we recommend you use our searches to find and reserve your car well in advance.

Alicante Area Guide

Alicante airport is located very centrally to a number of places of tourist interest including vast beaches, pretty towns to walk around and traditional Spanish restaurants for you to sample the local cuisine and with your Alicante car hire taken car of, all you have to worry about is what to do first.

The Spanish road and motorway network is of a high standard and easy enough to navigate so who is reading the map should be the least of your concerns.

Alicante is within the autonomous Spanish community Valencia on the Costa Blanca. This area of Spain is one of the fastest growing in the country due to the large tourist trade as people visit Benidorm, Torrevieja, Denia and other larger towns along the coast.

The beauty of the area is that once you have had enough time on the beaches, there are also many attractions and places for you to visit a little further inland with castles to wander around, archaeological museums to visit and pretty Spanish churches to view. Alicante also has a university and so has a thriving young community as can be seen in the number of bars and restaurants, discos and clubs.
