Is Paramount Coming To Murcia?
Rumours had been rife all year about Paramount bringing a new theme park to the region of Murcia and it wasn’t until last month on 10th September that Paramount officially announced that it had entered talks for the development of a Paramount branded theme park in Murcia.
Paramount is not technically behind the development of the theme park and Paramount Pictures will not be a direct investor but is working alongside the Murcia Regional Government and Santa Monica Financial Services SA to make the park a reality.
The Paramount Licensing Division will be involved in the planning phase of the park that will carry the Paramount brand name and will make use of certain Paramount features and be based on a Paramount inspired design. Michael Corcoran, President of Paramount Licensing along with Michael Bartok, Executive Vice President of the Recreation Division are looking forward to bringing a Paramount Pictures Park to Spain and investments made by the Santa Monica Financial Services SA, the company of Jesus Samper, a Murcian businessman and President of Real Murcia Football Club, hope to ensure this happens.
Where Exactly Will the Paramount Park Be Located in Murcia?
The location of the proposed Paramount Theme Park is said to be next to the Polaris World Condado de Alhama resort. Having initially planned a world of resorts on a massive piece of land inland from the Mar Menor and north of Mazarrón, a downturn in the property market and economic climate has meant that Polaris World no longer has the ambitious plans to build 3 18 hole Jack Nicklaus design golf courses around a number of individual luxury golf resorts at Condado de Alhama. Much of the land that was due for property construction is now said to be the future home of the Paramount Park.
The land is currently owned by a consortium of banks and should be within easy reach of the Corvera International Airport that is currently under construction.
