The long-awaited opening of Region of Murcia International Airport is a step closer with the announcement that the Regional Government has designed a training program to appoint the first 575 workers at the new airport. The areas with most vacancies are Airport Services, Ramp Operator, Cleaning Services and Security Officers.
The move was announced on 21st January by the Regional Minister for Education, Training and Employment, Constantino Sotoca, and the mayors of Murcia and Fuente Álamo, Miguel Ángel Cámara and María Antonia Conesa respectively. 50 training courses will be offered in different municipalities of the Region, representing an investment of 800,000 euros.
Specific courses, lasting between 50 and 70 hours, will be related to the details of certain professional activities in an airport, and are designed for those candidates who already have prior experience or training in a role but have never worked in an airport.
Complete courses, which will last between 85 and 250 hours, will include contents related to both the specific job and the requirements for working within an airport.
According to Sotoca, the opening of the airport represents “an absolute priority for the regional economy and job market”, and “a very important opportunity for the Region, since many citizens will be able to find a better professional future there”.
Currently around 500 people are working on shifts 24 hours a day to finish the infrastructure of a project which “will bring a high social benefit as well as constituting one of the pillars on which the economic future of our region will stand”. Road access to the airport from both East and West will be completed in the very near future, and the rest of the secondary infrastructure is nearing completion.
